Hooked on fishing...

I have had a passion for fishing all my life and I get a particular pleasure from talking and writing about the sport. You may have seen some of my articles in magazines and I write a monthly newsletter on trout and grayling for the Wye and Usk Foundation.

As a full time angling coach for over 12 years it continues to be my privilege to be able to teach and pass on my knowledge to people of all levels.

I hold a level 2 Certificate in Coaching Angling (Game) and I am licensed as a coach by the Angling Trust. This includes training in first aid and child protection, DBS check and of course insurance.

Learning to be a 'compleat angler'...

With so many beautiful locations and exciting game fish in our waters there are many adventures to be had.

Please see my Tuition page for the main ways in which I can help different levels of expertise with your fishing skills and personal requirements.

For the variety of different types of fishing and experiences available locally in which I can assist, please see the Species page for detail on the different fish in our waters and Speciality Methods page for those that are willing to test their skills in more challenging situations.

I am always happy to discuss options and tailored days around your needs with the aim to improve your experience of this wonderful sport.

Location and coverage

I’m based in the Forest of Dean at the bottom of the Wye, although for river fishing I drive a high annual mileage covering the whole catchments of the Wye and Usk.

Mainly of interest to those beginning in fly fishing, my local Forest has a series of scenic lakes including commercial fisheries such as Big Wells, Woolaston Court and Sandford Pool. These are ideal places to learn casting on grass or to begin progressing your sport in pleasant surroundings. In addition, the Forest contains several beats which are included in the Wye and Usk Foundation’s Wild Streams portfolio. These are charming little brooks with healthy natural populations of brown trout.

So from stalking small trout in wild streams, to fishing the big rivers for returning salmon, or simply learning in a stocked pond full of rainbows, there are plenty of ways enjoy and improve your fly fishing in this area.
